This Contract involved the design and construction of a new wastewater treatment plant at Shannon Airport to cater for a population equivalent of 5000 people. The Project was procured as a 20 year Design, Build and Operate Contract.  Ward & Burke Construction were responsible for all civil design and construction. The M&E works were carried out by Response Engineering.

An outlying pumping station (Knockbeg) was constructed to pump the effluent to the Treatment Works, via a 1500m rising main, with treated final effluent pumped and discharged at this site also.

Civil construction on the treatment works site consisted of:

  • Aeration tanks
  • Clarifiers,
  • Inlet works,
  • Pump sumps,
  • Control Building
  • Treatment process:
    • Automatic Screening
    • Grit Removal
    • Forward Feed Pumps
    • Biotank
    • Clarifier
    • Sludge thickening
    • Final Effluent pumping to outfall
