The Contract involved the design and construction of a new turnkey wastewater treatment plant to cater for a population equivalent of 2500 people in Coolaney, Co. Sligo.
The treatment process incorporates Inlet Screening and Grit Removal, STM Aeration System, Secondary Settlement, Final Effluent Holding and Sludge Thickening.
The process provided is an advanced nutrient removal process for the removal of Ammonia and Phosphorus to comply with the effluent standards. The biotank comprises of anoxic and aerobic zones within the tank which enhances nitrification and denitrification thus reducing the level of Ammonia and Total Nitrogen in the final effluent. Biological P elimination also takes place within the biotank.
Ward & Burke Construction were responsible for all civil design
and construction. The M&E works were carried out by Response Engineering.
Civil construction on the treatment works site consisted
of Aeration tanks, Clarifiers, Inlet works, Pump sumps, Control Building
and all site services.
A major requirement of the project was the fact that the
new plant was constructed within the confines of the existing site
with the existing plant being kept in operation during the construction
works.
