Project Description:
The Contract includes the following Works:
- The Contract involved the construction of a control building, a civic amenity site for the collection of recyclables, bulky waste and hazardous household materials, a waste quarantine and inspection shed, a fuel storage area and a leachate storage area. The capping of the leachate storage area comprised of the following:
- 1,050m2 HDPE layer 2mm thick
- 16,000m2 of imported fill
- The Works were constructed on an operational landfill site which continued in use during the construction period. Works included capping existing landfill cells with excavated material from construction related activities. The total floor area of the lined cell constructed was 17,800m2 comprising:
- 500mm capping incorporating a gas collection layer;
- 500mm bentonite enhanced soil impermeable layer;
- 2mm Linear Low Density Polyethylene Liner with geotextile;
- 500mm leachate collection layer.
- A methane removal system and a pumping station were also constructed as part of the Works.
- Site development and earthworks, fencing, foul and surface water drainage infrastructure and associated ancillary works. Pipe sizes were 150-600mm diameter PE pipe, drainage and pumping mains.
- Provisions were made on site for electrical, telephone and water services, a wheel wash, security barriers and a fire control system.
- Designations of clearly signposted traffic routes on site were also included in the Contract.
