Project Description:
(a)Watermains
- 59,500m of 400/350/300/250/200/150 mm diameter uPVC Class C.
- 4,805m of 280m diameter Fusion Welded HPPE Pipe (SDR 17.6)
(b) Treatment Works
- Upgraded the existing water treatment works at Luimnagh comprising of Filters, 3 tanks of reinforced concrete, partly underground and partly overground, each tank to contain media and water volume of approximately 180m³, surface dimensions 7m by 6m each.
- Observation and pipe gallery: A two storey reinforced concrete framed building with reinforced concrete floors, infill blockwork and pitched roof. Total floor areas 240m2.
- 62m of 600mm diameter ductile iron rising main bypass of the raw water balancing tank.
(c) Reservoirs (2 No.)
- L-Reservoir, Knockcarrigeen: 10,200m3 reinforced concrete storage reservoir at Knockcarrigeen complete with inlet/outlet pipework and a valve/meter chamber to permit inlet and outlet flow metering.
- Headford Reservoir[tower]: 720m3 reinforced concrete storage reservoir complete with quick acting ball float valve, associated inlet / outlet and flow measurement pipework.
(d) Knockacarrigeen Pumping Station
- Pumphouse with pitched slated roof and reinforced concrete frame, floor area 148 m2.
- Control building.
(e) Site Works
- Site access roads, site drainage, pipework and ancillary siteworks at the Luimnagh Water Works, L-Reservoir, and Headford Reservoir sites.

Particular Challenges:
- Liaison with numerous stakeholders along the route of the pipeline including Galway County Council divisions, National Parks and Wildlife, Fisheries, local residents/landowners, ESB, Telecom, etc.
- Construction of a 3km section of pipeline through an SAC (Special Area of Conservation).
- Working in an existing Water Treatment Works environment and ensuring maintenance of the water supply during tie-in cross-overs/ cross-connections. (This Plant supplies water to Galway City and all of North County Galway)
