The Works involved the construction of 1730m of 6.0m wide road including verges, which involved earthworks, laying of drainage and utilities, pavement construction, fencing and landscaping.
The Works connect the Arthurstown Road to Turfbog Lane and the local Rathcoole Road via a newly constructed roundabout.
Traffic consisted of a high volume of heavy goods vehicles travelling to and from Arthurstown Landfill Site which serves Counties Kildare and Dublin. Extensive traffic management was required.
Arthurstown Road runs adjacent to the M7 leading to Arthurstown landfill in Co. Kildare. Landfill waste from all over counties Kildare and Dublin is transported to this landfill. Therefore, the traffic consisted of a high volume of heavy goods vehicles and no road closures were allowed. In addition, the new M7 was under construction at the time and, therefore, commuting traffic volumes increased dramatically during construction.
Single carriageway was maintained throughout. Works included linking in with the M7 and therefore an extensive amount of traffic management coordination was necessary with the Contractors and the Authorities on both Schemes.
Numerous residential and business access points along the route which had to be maintained operational at all times during the course of the Works.
