Project Description:

  • This Contract involved the construction of a Pedestrian bridge over the River Barrow adjacent to the proposed Graiguecullen Millennium Park.
  • The Bridge Structure consists of a single span steel truss spanning the River Barrow.  The deck of the Bridge is approximately 40m in length and 2.5m wide.
  • The truss is formed from curved Circular Hollow Section, Rectangular Hollow Section and I-beams, from which a concrete walkway is supported.  The steel truss springs from the mass concrete abutments on piled foundations, which also function as the ramps and stairs, which run perpendicular to the main span.
  • The Bridge was fabricated off- site, in Galway, and transported to site. Traffic Management plans/procedures were necessary in Carlow and along the route from Galway to the site to facilitate delivery of the Bridge.
